20 days in Takayama Itinerary

Hidden high up in the Japanese Alps, Takayama remained largely cut off from the rest of Japan for centuries, allowing the local culture to grow in relative isolation.

Venture out of the city with trips to Tateyama-machi (Kurobe Dam, Tateyama Alpenmura, &more), Shirakawa-mura (Ogimachi Castle Old Site Observatory, Wada House, &more) and Ono (Ono Folk Village & Motomachi Hall). There's still lots to do: learn more about the world around you at Hida Minzoka Mura Folk Village (Hida no Sato), browse the eclectic array of goods at Hida-Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market, contemplate the long history of Takayama Jinya, and wander the streets of Sanmachi Suji.

If you are flying in from Singapore, the closest major aiports are Toyama Airport, Komatsu Airport / JASDF Komatsu Air Base and Chubu Centrair International Airport. In July, daily temperatures in Takayama can reach 35°C, while at night they dip to 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
