Ibaraki — 3 nights

Ibaraki is a city located in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Aramaki Rose Garden and Byodo-in Temple Museum Hoshokan. Explore Ibaraki's surroundings by going to Uji (Mimurotoji Temple & Byodoin). Next up on the itinerary: see the interesting displays at National Museum of Ethnology, take in the spiritual surroundings of Daimon-ji Temple, walk around Motoibarakigawa Ryokuchi Park, and have some family-friendly fun at Takatsuki Field Athletic.

Fukuchiyama — 3 nights

Fukuchiyama is a city in northern Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, on the Yura River. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Moto Isenaigu Kotai Shrine and Fukuchiyama Castle. Change things up with these side-trips from Fukuchiyama: Asago (Shirai Omachi Fuji Park & Ritsuun Valley) and Tendaki Falls (in Yabu). There's much more to do: get to know the resident critters at Fukuchiyama City Zoo, stroll around Oeyama Onigawara Park, take in the spiritual surroundings of Umeboshi Hanjuro Kannon, and get to know the fascinating history of Yakuno Highland.
