Climb the 309 steps up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred Buddhist temple set on top of a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. Take in extensive views of the city below before admiring the impressive artistry of the temple's main buildings and decorative flourishes. Said to have been established in the late 14th century, this well-maintained place of worship remains the subject of many myths and legends, with the truth of its construction and development still a mystery. • It feels somewhat absurd (and very bad karma) to write a review of a Buddhist temple but as a visitor experience I would highly recommend you prioritise the temples in Chiang Mai old city.

  • Beauty 5/5 We were told that there were 306 stairs, we didn’t count but there were many. This temple is the most beautiful temple we have visited. There is a shoe locker and our numbers were 15 & 16. While shaking those numbered sticks inside the temple, 2 of the sticks fell out and the numbers were 15 & 16. Don’t know if i should call this a coincidence or blessing.
  • Very nice temple. Would recommend to drive by motorbike. Beautiful route. We also went to the meditation center. Noble & calm place!
