Admire the stoic and friendly Malaysian elephants at Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre. An endemic species, the elephants here are orphaned and many will be relocated to suitable habitats once rehabilitated and able to live in the wild. Watch the animals being washed and fed before getting the chance to ride one and swim in the river with them as they bathe. Due to the sanctuary's popularity, advance reservations are recommended. We visited this elephant sanctuary in May 2022 with our 3 kids (aged between 8-11yrs). We booked our guide Zali and he was amazing. His knowledge and love for all of the elephants was clear to see...

Why is this called a sanctuary? For god sake, most tourists want to see wildlife in their natural habitat or something as similar to that as possible, they do not want to see circus acts, or humans...

Good elephant sanctuary. Entrance is free but visitors are encouraged to make a donation. I am happy that elephant rides are not allowed here in the elephant sanctuary. Visitors are allowed to feed and get close enough to the elephants to pet them and that is good already. People should not be complaining about not being able to get anymore closer to the animals. This is an elephant SANCTUARY, not a farm where you're free to exploit animals.

A worthwhile place to bring children to observe and appreciate elephants at close range. You can feed (sugar cane available at RM3 per bundle) and pat the elephants. If you are lucky, you may be able to participate in bathing the elephants in the river. There is performance at 2pm by the adult and young elephants. Entrance is free, however donation is greatly appreciated. Toilets facilities available. Do bring MOSQUITO repellent.
