Nakasendo Magome-juku gives you a view of a town from the distant past, transporting you back to Edo-period Japan. The 43rd of 69 stations on the Nakasendō, this postal town was prosperous and cosmopolitan for many years until the Chūō Main Line was opened, and it fell into obscurity. Having been restored to its former glory, you can view restored antiquated buildings along the main post road, peppered with inns and shops that would service the travelers on the Nakasendō. At the upper end of the town, you can enjoy panoramic views across the hills to Mt. Ena, and if you fancy a hike, you can walk along the post road to the next town, which takes you past waterfalls and through forests.
