Admire the monumental statue of Kōtoku-in, one of the largest Buddha figures in Japan. The towering bronze statue dates back to the 13th century and sits outside a Buddhist temple in the small town of Kamakura. Enjoy the view of the 13.3 m (43.8 ft) tall Amitabha Buddha, an imposing sight dominating peaceful temple grounds. For a small fee, you can venture inside the hollow statue to see the elaborate structural work that makes up this gargantuan monument. Using our custom trip planner, Kamakura attractions like Kōtoku-in can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

A fantastic place that you cannot miss to visit when you are in Japan. The might statue of Buddha amidst the lovely surroundings is totally a sight that would make your day. This place is quite crowded in the mornings. You can also have a glimpse into the history by going around in this place. It's really fascinating to see this structure withstand the earthquakes and the tidal waves in the past.

I have been inside several times in a span of almost a decade. The gardens are always well maintained and it’s relaxing inside. The statue is big but not gigantic. One more interesting factor are the shops and restaurants outside the temple area. The beach is also walking distance.
