Reflect on Okinawa's often violent history at Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, located on the southern tip of the island. An estimated 200,000 people died in Okinawa during one of the bloodiest battles of the war, from April to June 1945. A turn around the park provides you with a chance to observe perfectly maintained gardens leading to a series solemn monuments and the top of Peace Hill. The monumental Cornerstone of Peace lists the names of thousands of soldiers and civilians lost in the Battle of Okinawa. Be sure to step inside Peace Memorial Museum, where a detailed, sobering synopsis of the battle illuminates the severity of the war's effect on the island. Put Okinawa Peace Memorial Park at the forefront of your travel plans using our Itoman driving holiday site.

My family ended a day adventure at this wonderful yet heart wrenching Museum. I have to say it was a lot to take in from the park to the Memorial, how such a beautiful place can represent so much loss by mankind. I wish I could but the US & This Museum and merge them together. I can only hope that we learn from our past.

Must see this memorial park and museum. It’s the “Vietnam Wall” equivalent of the Battle of Okinawa... except it’s a memorial for all three sides who fought in this battle.
