Bizenmaru, Himeji

This is part of the incredible Himeji Castle complex. Himeji Castle is probably one of the most picturesque castles in Japan. It is very easy to get to the castle from the train station. You can either take a local bus or walk for about 15-20 minutes. The castle can get a bit crowded on weekends, so if you can visit during the week, it might be better and less hectic. It is an easy day-trip to Himeji castle from either Osaka or Kyoto and you can also stop in Kobe on the way to or from Himeji Castle. There are plenty of other interesting sites in the vicinity of Himeji Castlle and it is well worth spending the day visiting them as well.

A great spot to observe the castle close up, although it may be difficult to capture it in one single photo. The lonely old tree in front of this castle has kind of reminded me of Minas Tirith in the movie LOTR!
