Akashi Castle is a Japanese castle in Akashi, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. This castle was constructed by Ogasawara Tadazane as his own castle from 1617 to 1619 to watch over the western lords, by the order of Tokugawa Hidetada, on Mount Akamatsu. It is known Miyamoto Musashi helped too as he was invited by Ogasawara Tadanao as a "Construction Supervisor". The castle was built in one year, which was a relatively short amount of time. This was done so quickly because as a result of a 1615 law mandating one castle per clan, many castles were dismantled and parts of some were used to construct Akashi Castle. The castle was built in Akashi, which was an important strategic point between Osaka and western Japan, where many major tozama daimyo had their feudal estates. Akashi Castle was expected to play the role of a key staging point to stop a hypothetical invasion of Osaka.Akashi castle underwent major repairs in 1739, and was demolished by the Meiji Government in 1874.Cultural PropertyIn Akashi Castle, there are two Important Cultural Properties selected by Japanese government: Hitsujisaru YaguraTatsumi YaguraThese two yagura, or towers, are the castle's only remaining buildings.AccessSanyo Akashi Station of Sanyo Electric RailwayAkashi Station of JR Kobe LineTo visit Ruins of Akashi Castle on your trip to Akashi, use our Akashi trip planning app.

What a beautiful place to visit! The castle ruins are especially beautiful with the changing foliage (I went the last week in November). If you are looking for a gorgeous, serene place to think and reflect, this is well worth a visit. Only a five minute walk from the station!

The view from top is awesome, but not too much to see about the castle
