Take a steep hike up to Signal Hill, a hilltop affording incredible views over the bay and offering an insight into the rich history of the military communications it once provided. During different times of year, the lookout provides views of whales and icebergs, which can also be enjoyed while walking the trails around the site. Examine the onsite museum detailing the work that went on here during the great Seven Years’ War. Hiking to the top isn’t essential, as you can drive, but if you choose to walk, wear sturdy footwear and consider bringing a picnic if the weather’s good; there are no refreshments available at the top. We've been living in Newfoundland since September 2021, and it has been a humbling and outstanding experience, learning about the history and sacrifices that Newfoundlanders have carried out throughout history for Canada has helped us realise what hard work without embellishment or pride is all about. We're Canadian hence we work for each other, not only for ourselves but for other Canadians, old or new, with a joyful, respectful and obliging attitude, we can all say... Bring it on! Signal Hill, where the first transatlantic Radio transmission took place is a calmed majestic place to behold the North Atlantic. I've slowly and steadily fallen in love with Newfoundland and my Newfoundland wife, gotten to understand her better and the humble resilience and hard work that I found this Monday evening through the presence of a beautiful enduring Silver Fox... Is love to call myself a Newfoundlander. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🍁🍁🍁

A must-visit place while in St. John's. Top of the hill provides best lookout for entire area. No wonder, St. John's is the oldest town in Canada due to it's strategic location. Can you believe you are closer to Greenland than Edmonton, AB !!! This is very historically significant site from trade and security viewpoint. Glad to be here
