Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Step off the beaten path and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Minnajima Island. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Onna-son: Okinawa Peace Memorial Park (in Itoman), Motobu-cho (Emerald Beach, Bise no Fukugi Tree Road, &more) and Nakijin Castle Ruins (in Nakijin-son). There's lots more to do: make a trip to Cape Maeda, steep yourself in history at Sefa-Utaki, explore the fascinating underground world of Blue Cave, and stop by Onna Station Nakayukui Market.

Melbourne, Australia to Onna-son is an approximately 17.5-hour combination of flight and bus. The time zone difference when traveling from Melbourne to Onna-son is minus 1 hour. Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Step off the beaten path and head to East Henna Cape and Yabiji. The adventure continues: enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island, take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, and don't miss a visit to Ikema Ohashi Bridge.

Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Yonehara Beach and Banna Park. Spend 1st (Fri) immersed in the deep blue with Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki, walk around Kabira Park, and take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier.

You can ride a ferry from Ishigaki to Iriomote-jima in 1.5 hours. In October in Iriomote-jima, expect temperatures between 34°C during the day and 28°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 7th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Takachiho-cho.

Takachiho-cho

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nabegataki Falls and Takachiho Shrine. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Takachiho-cho: Aso (Daikanbo Lookout & Kusasenrigahama) and Shirakawa Springs (in Minamiaso-mura). And it doesn't end there: take in the dramatic scenery at Manai Falls, contemplate the geological forces at Mt. Aso, go for a walk through Amano Yasugawara, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Iwato Shrine.

Do a combination of ferry, flight, and bus from Iriomote-jima to Takachiho-cho in 9 hours. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Iriomote-jima in October; daily highs in Takachiho-cho reach 28°C and lows reach 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

Yakushima-cho

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.

Traveling by combination of car, train, and ferry from Takachiho-cho to Yakushima-cho takes 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Takachiho-cho in October, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Yakushima-cho, with lows of 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Thu) so you can fly to Tateyama-machi.

Tateyama-machi

The small town of Tateyama-machi, nestled in the hills of Mount Tate, remains most notable as the gateway to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Fri): take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Tateyama and then see human ingenuity at work at Kurobe Dam. Here are some ideas for day two: cruise along Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route and then explore the activities along Mikurigaike Pond.

Traveling by flight from Yakushima-cho to Tateyama-machi takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry and car. In October, Tateyama-machi is slightly colder than Yakushima-cho - with highs of 21°C and lows of 14°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sat) so you can fly to Sapporo.

Sapporo

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Step off the beaten path and head to Moerenuma Park and Lake Shikotsu. Explore Sapporo's surroundings by going to Royce' Chocolate World (in Chitose) and Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho). And it doesn't end there: don't miss a visit to Sapporo JR Tower Observatory T38, fly down the slopes at Okurayama Lookout, contemplate the long history of Hokkaido Jingu, and get great views at Mt. Moiwa.

Fly from Tateyama-machi to Sapporo in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. When traveling from Tateyama-machi in October, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Sapporo: temperatures range from 15°C by day to 11°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Tue) so you can catch the flight to Teshikaga-cho.

Shari-cho

Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
