Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Step out of the city life by going to Aragusuku Beach and Sunayama Beach. Visit Toguchi no Hama and Nakanoshima Beach for some beach relaxation. There's still lots to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, step off the mainland to explore Kouri Island, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, and take in the views from Irabu Ohashi.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Daisekirinzan and Katsuren Castle Ruins. Take a break from the city and head to Okuma Beach and Blue Cave. Venture out of the city with trips to Motobu-cho (Emerald Beach & Okinawa Memorial Park Ocean Expo Park), Okinawa Peace Memorial Park (in Itoman) and Valley of Gangala (in Nanjo). There's lots more to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, stop by Onna Station Nakayukui Market, get a new perspective on nature at Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, and make a trip to Nakijin Castle Ruins.

Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
Start off your visit on the 28th (Tue): hit the slopes at Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort / Alpine Garden. Here are some ideas for day two: hit the slopes at Hakuba Happoone Ski Resort and then hit the slopes at Hakuba.

Getting from Onna-son to Hakuba-mura by combination of bus and flight takes about 6 hours. Other options: do a combination of bus, flight, tram, and train; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Onna-son in December, things will get much colder in Hakuba-mura: highs are around 43°F and lows about 32°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Wed) early enough to travel to Kutchan-cho.

Kutchan-cho's reputation rests on two things: skiing and potatoes.
Take a break from the city and head to Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Place and Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Rusutsu Resort Ski and Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery. Change things up with a short trip to Niseko Village Ski Resort in Niseko-cho (about 30 minutes away).
