Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Cape Hirakubozaki and Oganzaki Lighthouse are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Go for a jaunt from Ishigaki to Iriomote-jima to see Nakama-river Protected Region about 1h 35 min away. Spend 5th (Thu) immersed in the deep blue with Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour. Near the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers, Nagano combines historic sites with nearby forested alps dotted with shrines.
On the 14th (Sat), look for gifts at Hokusai-kan and then surround yourself with nature on Snow Monkey Resorts. Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Do your shopping at Nishiki Market Shopping District and Kimono Atelier Akane. The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
