Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get outdoors at Tokyo Gaijins - Day Tours and Rock Garden. Do your shopping at Ginza and Asakusa. Change things up with a short trip to Mt. Takao in Hachioji (about 1h 15 min away). There's still lots to do: admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower, get a taste of the local shopping with Takeshita Street, make a trip to Ameya Yokocho (Ameyoko), and admire the masterpieces at Tokyo National Museum.

Nagano

Near the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers, Nagano combines historic sites with nearby forested alps dotted with shrines.
Kick off your visit on the 8th (Fri): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Togakushi Shrine Okusha, then admire the masterpieces at Hokusai-kan, and then get to know the fascinating history of Kurino Komichi. Visiting Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Hakone-machi side-trips: Gotemba Premium Outlets (in Gotemba), Kengamine (in Fujinomiya) and Nature & Wildlife Tours (in Fuji). Kyoto

Traveling by flight from Hakone-machi to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or drive. Traveling from Hakone-machi in October, expect nights in Kyoto to be about the same, around 18°C, while days are somewhat warmer, around 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sun) so you can take a train to Osaka.

Himeji

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Step out of the city life by going to Mt. Takamikura and Kibi Plain Bicycle Route. Venture out of the city with trips to Ritsuun Gorge (in Asago), Tendaki Falls (in Yabu) and Ohashi House (in Kurashiki). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en, contemplate the long history of Nishi no Maru, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Mt Shosha hiking.
