Kyoto is known for historic sites, shopping, and classes. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, wander the streets of Gion, steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.

Fly from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In May, daytime highs in Kyoto are 29°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Wed) so you can go by car to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
On the 4th (Wed), make a trip to Daibutsuden and then walk around Nara Park. On your second day here, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kasuga Grand Shrine, steep yourself in history at Todaiji Keidaicho, appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, get engrossed in the history at Kofuku-ji Temple National Treasure Hall, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kofuku-ji Temple, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kofuku-ji Temple 5 Stories Pagoda.

You can drive from Kyoto to Nara in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Kyoto in May since evenings lows in Nara dip to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Osaka.

Osaka
