The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Tue): take in the spiritual surroundings of Yakushima Shrine, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Yaku Shrine, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kusukawa Tenmangu Shrine, and finally explore the ancient world of Ruins of Kosugidani Village. Keep things going the next day: trek along Yakusugi Land.

Traveling by combination of flight and train from Yakushima-cho to Hiroshima takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, bus, and train; or do a combination of ferry and train. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in May, and nighttime lows around 18°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Fri) early enough to catch the train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Sat): admire the natural beauty at Koko-en, step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, contemplate the long history of Nishi no Maru, then contemplate the long history of Bizenmaru, and finally make a trip to Viewing Deck, Himeji Station Square.
