Hakone-machi

Sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji, Hakone-machi has become a popular retreat from Tokyo for locals and tourists alike.
Explore Hakone-machi's surroundings by going to Fujikawaguchiko-machi (Kawaguchi Sengen Shrine & Lake Kawaguchi) and Fujiyoshida (Arakurayama Sengen Park & Chureito Pagoda). There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, trek along Hakone Stone‐paved Road, and stroll around Onshi Hakone Park.

Traveling by car from Tokyo to Hakone-machi takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. You will have some time to spend on the 15th (Thu) before leaving for Takamatsu.

Matsuyama

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Mon): step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Keep things going the next day: stop by Gion.
