Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
teamLab☆Planets and Tokyo National Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Waho-An NATURE Tokyo and Tokyo National Museum The Heiseikan. There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at Edo-Tokyo Museum, examine the collection at Fire Museum, admire the masterpieces at The National Art Center, Tokyo, and stroll around Odaiba Kaihin Koen (Odaiba Seaside Park).

Houston, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 19-hour flight. You'll lose 15 hours traveling from Houston to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Houston in July, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Tokyo: temperatures range from 87°F by day to 74°F at night. On the 13th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kennin-ji Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of the city life by going to Mt. Kurama and Kamogawa River. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Tofuku-ji Temple, stop by Pontocho District, see the interesting displays at Kyoto Railway Museum, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tenryuji Temple.

Getting from Tokyo to Kyoto by train takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. In July, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 89°F, while at night they dip to 76°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sun) so you can go by car to Osaka.

Koyasan Okunoin and Toshodai-ji Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Discover out-of-the-way places like Kongobu-ji Temple and Kawasaki Good Times World. Venture out of the city with trips to Cup Noodle Museum Osaka Ikeda (in Ikeda), Nara (Kofuku-ji Temple, Nigatsu-do Temple, &more) and Koya-cho (Joju-in Temple, Koyasan Reihokan Museum, &more).
