Popular historic sites such as Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Shimogamo Jinja are in your itinerary. Bring the kids along to Tenryuji Temple and Kennin-ji Temple. On the 31st (Fri), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Toshodai-ji Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kasuga Grand Shrine, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple, then walk around Nara Park, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Wakakusa. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: step into the grandiose world of Osaka Castle, get a taste of the local shopping with Hankyu Umeda Honten, then steep yourself in history at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and finally visit Dotombori District.

Getting from Kyoto to Osaka by train takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In July in Osaka, expect temperatures between 89°F during the day and 76°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Sat) early enough to travel to Tokyo.
