The Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation (BMOUIF) was established in 2000 initially as ex-situ conservation facility for the endangered Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus). The objective of BMOUIF was re-oriented to comprise a five-pronged strategy that encompassed conservation, rehabilitation, research and the promotion of educational and research programmes.
