  • This museum is a true gem. Situated 3 km from the station it is well worth the ride. For many reasons: The museum building itself is an amazing architectural experience. The scenery around the museum with the snow clad mountains as a backdrop. But first and foremost the diverse collection of art inside. There's even a children friendly section with dinosaurs and activities. Fantastic genuine and rewarding experience if you have 2-3 hours to spare from the tourist shops in Takayama centre. There's also a restaurant if you want to eat on premise.
  • A very beautiful museum in a building like a Mexican Maya temple. The permanent exhibition is great: magnificent calligraphy and Japanse paintings from different periods.
