Meiji Jingu Gaien, Tokyo

4.3
#9 of 476 in Parks in Tokyo
Park · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Broad boulevards lined with ginkgo trees and fountains link a series of popular attractions at Meiji Jingu Gaien, a park and outer precinct of the Meiji Jingu Shrine. Opened in 1926, the park is home to extensive sports facilities, the historic Jingu Stadium, the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery, and, of course, the much-visited shrine. Take your pick of activities, from tennis and baseball, to golfing and ice-skating. Traditional Nagasaki-style champon and other noodle dishes are served at the park's restaurant. • Every time we come to Tokyo we make time to walk through the gardens to the Meiji Shrine - we love the peace and natural surroundings in the middle of this busy and amazing city!  more »

  • Very convenient and simple stadium in Tokyo. I enjoyed a hot and muggy night there with beers for only JPY 750, I could cool off 😉
  • Do yourself a favour and attend a Japanese baseball game! This is not amateur hour -- the skill level is high as is the level of action. Locals are very passionate about the sport and expect to see people of all ages loudly cheering their favourite team. Note: wear the appropriate jersey/team colour for where your seat is. Home side = home colours and vice versa. I went to a Tokyo Swallows vs. Hiroshima Carp game and the latter fans outnumbered the former! They even sell visitor merch in and outside the stadium.
