Ikaho Stone Steps, Shibukawa

3.4
Historic Walking Area · Landmark
Walk up the historic Ikaho Stone Steps, a 300 m (984 ft) long commercial and recreational street. Heading up through the center of the mountain town, the staircase has 365 steps in total and acts as the historic center, dating back to the Edo period. With both bustling souvenir shops and restful "ryokan" (traditional Japanese inns with spa facilities and restaurants), you can take the street at your own pace to find that experience that suits you. Stop off at the midpoint of the stairs to see the old center of town, still imbued with traces of days gone by. • I stayed there for 20-25 mins only because I was waiting for the bus to go to Mount Haruno... I heard that there were 365 steps to get to top so I challenged myself to reach the top and get back to the bus stop before the bus arrived! I started at 3:17pm... 3:21pm I was at the top! Ok I admit it, I ran out of breath but I still made it! 😁 There was a small temple at the top but closed for renovations. On my way down, I visited few stores where they have cute souvenirs and others Japanese delicacies. You can also notice some windows on the ground where you can see the hot water flowing for spa. Unless you go at the spa, there's not too much to do there but it still à nice place
  • Hot spring stands middle of this steps and you can find the shrine of hot spring.
