3.4
#1 of 59 in Things to do in Shibukawa
Historic Walking Area · Landmark
Walk up the historic Ikaho Stone Steps, a 300 m (984 ft) long commercial and recreational street. Heading up through the center of the mountain town, the staircase has 365 steps in total and acts as the historic center, dating back to the Edo period. With both bustling souvenir shops and restful "ryokan" (traditional Japanese inns with spa facilities and restaurants), you can take the street at your own pace to find that experience that suits you. Stop off at the midpoint of the stairs to see the old center of town, still imbued with traces of days gone by. • We were not impressed. I would put this VERY far down the list of places to see in this area. The bottom half of the steps had very few ships or restaurants. The upper half had more businesses but....  more »
  • Park at the bottom at the lot for ¥600 and walk the 365 steps to the top. Fun gift shops, sweets, and restaurants along the way. Even carnival game shops on the way. Half way up is a onsen foot bath.....  more »

  • I stayed there for 20-25 mins only because I was waiting for the bus to go to Mount Haruno... I heard that there were 365 steps to get to top so I challenged myself to reach the top and get back to the bus stop before the bus arrived! I started at 3:17pm... 3:21pm I was at the top! Ok I admit it, I ran out of breath but I still made it! 😁 There was a small temple at the top but closed for renovations. On my way down, I visited few stores where they have cute souvenirs and others Japanese delicacies. You can also notice some windows on the ground where you can see the hot water flowing for spa. Unless you go at the spa, there's not too much to do there but it still à nice place
  • Hot spring stands middle of this steps and you can find the shrine of hot spring.
