The Sapporo Beer Museum (サッポロビール博物館, Sapporo Bīru Hakubutsukan) is a museum located in the Sapporo Garden Park in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan. Registered as one of the Hokkaidō Heritage sites in 2004, the museum is the only beer museum in Japan. The red-brick building was erected originally as a factory of the Sapporo Sugar Company in 1890, and later opened as a museum in July 1987. The building also houses the Sapporo Beer Garden in the south wing.To visit Sapporo Beer Museum on your holiday in Sapporo, and find out what else Sapporo has to offer, use our Sapporo.

For a beer with such a supposedly rich history, the museum, which feels a bit like an afterthought, does not do it justice. The tasting room, similarly, was not friendly - pushing all guests out...

Surprisingly deep free tour and delicious tastings - we didn't expect much but the free tour exhibits all have English translation cards next to them and teach you all about Hokkaido's development since the late 1800s. The tastings at the end cost ¥600 for a flight and come with light bar snacks. The line for the tickets machine can get quite long so set aside some time and send someone from your group to claim a table while waiting.
Probably some of the best beer I've ever had the chance to drink! I visited here in November so it was all lit up in preparation for Christmas. The building is beautiful and there are many great photo opportunities. Inside, you can take a short free tour, or a longer paid tour. After wandering through the small free exhibition, we got to the beer hall where you can sample various beers and have some small snacks. I must warn you that it can get extremely busy all of a sudden when the tour groups roll in! Also, it is not particularly cheap but the 3 beer set was the best value. Definitely try some Sapporo Classic! The gift shop was great for branded goods. You don't need to spend particularly long here- 30-45 minutes should do if you are taking the free route. There is a huge mall next door with an equally huge supermarket inside (stock up on some beers from there!!).
