Landmark · Tourist Spot
Once a sacred cleansing site for those attempting to conquer Mt. Fuji, Oshino Hakkai features a sprawling set of eight ponds fed by snow melting from the nearby mountain. Meander your way by the water's edge, enjoying the occasional glimpse of colorful fish and plant life dwelling in the depths. Gaining popularity in recent years, the area has developed to offer restaurants, souvenir shops, and street food vendors tempting visitors with delicious osenbei rice crackers. Near the largest pond, you can explore an open-air museum, home to a traditional thatch-roof farmhouse and rare pieces of samurai armor. • A very beautifully place with great scenery especially on days where we could see Mount Fuji at the background. There are 8 beautiful and unique ponds holding water from Mount Fuji. I am still trying to figure how water gets into some ponds though. We will need to walk a distance to get here as vehicle is not allowed. The street goods were nice and good toilet facility was also provided. The place offers lots of photography opportunities.
  • Oshino Hakkai is a nice go to place after visiting the 5th station, it us nearby and boasts of eight ponds. It is located in a quaint village in the Fuji five lake region. Some believe that drinking water from its waters is healing. Lots of tourists though so drinking water from here is not advised since I saw a few tourists drinking from the ladle directly.
