Visit Nezu Museum for a meticulous, captivating lesson in how Japanese art and culture have evolved throughout history. The museum houses Nezu Kaichirō's (1860 –1940) private collection of pre-modern Japanese and East Asian art. Constructed in 1933, Nezu's family home-cum-museum consists of the main house, gate house, and three-story kura (storehouse) filled with relics, crafts, and works of art. Inspect the vast collection of Edo-period folding screens, paintings of renown, calligraphy, sculptures, Chinese bronzes, and archaeological materials. Should you tire from walking, rest outside in the serene traditional garden. By using our Tokyo holiday planner, you can arrange your visit to Nezu Museum and other attractions in Tokyo.

  • Incredible museum, unlike many other art museums it doesn't overwhelm you with how big it is. Has around 5 exhibits which is perfect for going through at a leisurely pace for a couple of hours. From there I highly recommend eating at the cafe out back, which has a lovely view of the garden and then after eating take your time walking through the garden and appreciate where you are. Loved it
  • An incredible museum just a walking distance from Omotesando area. The design of the museum, both outdoors and indoors is simply an art piece on its own. The artifacts in the exhibition include centuries-old Buddha statues from East Asia and the outdoors includes a beautiful tea house and a traditional Japanese garden. Highly recommend.
