Garden · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Explore the flawlessly manicured oasis at Kiyosumi Teien. Having passed through the hands of various powers, the garden was donated to the city of Tokyo and opened to the public in 1932. Its current form represents the creation of the founder of Mitsubishi, who brought in renowned rocks from all over the country and channeled the waters of the Sumidagawa to create the picturesque pond. Wander the stepping stone paths, watch turtles and fish floating below the water's surface, and inspect the 4,000 trees clustered in this lush landscape. Nature lovers might want to bring a pair of binoculars to observe the many birds from the nearby river and bay attracted here. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tokyo holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Kiyosumi Teien and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Lovely little garden to stroll around and/or have picnic. It is a great change from the city feel and lot more relaxing. The air you breathe here is fresh and you can find some peace (its not crowded). I saw many empty benches and tables
  • A fantastic small garden, which is absolutely tidy and clean and a complete joy to be in. A lot of people have picnics there. There is also a nice place in the garden where you can buy some tea with a dessert or a lunch. I highly recommend going there if you stay somewhere in Ryogoku area. The admission there is minimal, around one dollar, and it is completely worth it
