A photogenic man-made pond set in lush greenery, Kumoba Pond provides a great spot to relax some 1.5 km (1 mi) from Karuizawa station. Enjoy watching water birds and the changing colors of offshore leaves with a wide variety of flowers artfully arranged around the lake. A well-maintained 20-minute path leads around the pond. Also known as a “swan lake,” the pond now offers home to whole families of ducks. The mirror-like lake surface provides a sense of tranquility, making this a popular spot for locals and tourists. Catch a bus seven minutes from Karuizawa station and get off at Roppontsuji bus stop to reach the pond. • This is my second visit and the scenery is very different depending on the season. Right now, the autumn colours and reflections are breathtaking.
  • Fantastic autumn leaves surrounds this beautiful pond. Great for pictures and has a cozy cafe.
