Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
For a sobering reminder of the horrors of nuclear warfare, visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. One of the museum's two wings details the history of Hiroshima, the development of and decision to use the bomb, and the following discussions surrounding nuclear warfare and disarmament. The other wing goes into detail about the devastating damage and longer-term effects of the bomb. Don't miss the A-Bomb dome on site, one of the few buildings in the area that has been left in the same condition since the day of the bombing. Tears. Don’t avoid it. I did not weep until I saw the burnt silk children’s clothes in the exquisitely curated historical exhibition. You have to read Einstein’s letter to US President. Hiroshima is..... more »

An important place to visit with your family and neighbors so that we can ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated. WWII killed millions, many died here at the end of WWII. more »

Amazing museum that it's very moving. While it is an emotional experience, I highly recommend spending 2-3 hours here because the history is so exceptionally documented. There are English translations of almost every sign and the photographs, paintings and other media are very well presented. A very tasteful museum for an event that is sometimes hard to talk about.

Full on and very moving experience. We went early in the day and i am glad we did, it would be hard to spend 3 hours here after a day of sightseeing. It takes a lot of emotional energy, and was incredibly draining and heartbreaking to read so many personal accounts. I would recommend doing some of your own research, especially about more complex things like the Potsdam Declaration, as there is more to it than was told in the museum. Overall, amazing and powerful experience.
