See a landmark and functional center of Soto Zen Buddhism at Daihonzan Eihei-ji Temple, a historic and important temple complex. Founded in 1244 CE by Eihei Dogen, a monk considered the founder of the school in the country, the complex includes a training monastery with more than 200 monks and nuns in residence. The bronze temple bell dates back to 1327, and represents one of the main things to see during a visit to the temple. Upon entry to the temple, you'll be handed a list of rules that must be adhered to at all times during the visit.   • Since I had the day free, I went to the train station to get a ticket to Eiheiji. The ticket agent said, once there, I’ll need to get a bus and the bus is not scheduled to meet the first train...  more »
