Housed in an imposing 63 m (207 ft) vermillion pagoda, China Art Museum showcases some 6,000 works of art telling the story of modern China. Absorb images of Chinese modernization, from communist to capitalist, its resistance and embracing of Westernization, and the emergence of contemporary Chinese identity. From the Haipai style of Shanghai's emulators of Western movements, to 21st-century Chinese art by 260 artists, the two-floor museum boasts work by the most important modern national painters. The museum looks astonishing and is huge and with huge I mean HUGE!!!! Its easy to reach via public transportation and it is definitely worth a visit. Even if you aren't into art, you should definitely go there and at least take pictures of the building. Thumbs up for the architecture.

This place is awesome, dedicated to the modern art. Come early since it’s free and lots of people already queue up even before the opening time. Most are free except when there’s a special exhibition. If you’re a student at a Chinese institution, you can get discount by showing your student ID. There’s a cafe inside to sit down and relax but the coffee was meh. Their gift shop is also pretty.
