Dating back to the early 15th century, Temple of Heaven served the leaders of the Ming and Qing dynasties as the site of annual harvest prayer ceremonies. Regarded as a Taoist house of worship, the temple complex contains several structures, including a central prayer hall, an enormous triple-gabled structure intricately detailed on the outside and elaborated decorated on the inside. There, the emperors, traditionally considered interlocutors between mortals and gods, performed rituals to request the blessing for successful harvests.     Learning the history of this temple was fascinating, the number of times it had had to have been rebuilt / restored. The intricacies of the echo stone, and the boxes inside were fascinating to learn.....  more »

    If you visit the Temple of Heaven, try not to miss it This Hall of Prayer corridor is the main attraction of the Temple of Heaven but it is so difficult to reach its entrances and take a look that you should arm yourself with patience but also resolution. It is impressive when you see from inside ... But I am not sure it is worth the waiting and pushing ... Bottom line, if you already are there and if you have the strength (or if it is not overcrowded) you should try and see it from inside.

    Dating back to 1420 China's most important ancient temple worthy of its UNESCO World heritage status. Lots of walking involved but plenty of places to stop. Lots of activity as the locals use the space for prayer and relaxation. Amazing trees like the junipers.
